21 Feb The beginnings
Sarah Lucy’s farm boots, hand printed with Auntie Vicki’s doodlings.
I feel as if things are falling into place. I have found a career that is exciting, challenging, unique and… possible! My past jobs have included travel agent, environmental scientist, motorbike salesperson, farmer, mother, studio manager, seamstress and waitress. None of these have felt permanent and fulfilling. I love aspects of each of them and have attempted to do more than one of them at a time. Sometimes, switching between them 4 or 5 times a day.
Making shoes satisfies so many of my passions. I get to talk to people. I make art. I sew. I source materials and research their backgrounds and their futures and discuss them in terms of ethics and environmental soundness. I work from home with a view of my farm. I help people.
Sole Purpose Uralla is exciting for me, as I can share this special work with two of my close friends, one I grew up with and one I reconnected with later. Whilst we are drawing patterns, choosing materials, cutting patterns and sewing, we talk, laugh and share food. I listen to other friends talk about their work colleagues or their bosses and I thank the universe for my excellent situation.
